Still no update from Google
The Google Workspace status page still hasn’t been updated to say the fix is confirmed, and still says the company will update us by 12:30 PDT — so it’s possible things could go wrong again. But things look pretty stable at this point – everyone on the TechRadar team is able to use Gemini normally now.
Out of the pan…
Gemini reports continue to drop so it looks like the problem may be over… but I’ve noticed reports starting to increase of people having problems with Wordle. Now to would be a tragedy. We will of course keep an eye on it.
It’s back to me
To match the rapidly decreasing Downdetector reports I am now able to use Gemini for the first time as I have not been able to get it to do anything all day. I’ve been trying to build a little bookmarking tool to help the TechRadar team view our site from different countries without starting a VPN, and 3.1 Pro just looked it up for me in seconds.
Positive movement?
There seems to be an increasing drop in reports of outages for Gemini in the US on Downdetector now… Google hasn’t updated the status page with anything more specific, but it did say “Our engineering team has identified a mitigation which is currently in progress. We don’t have an ETA for mitigation at this time” – so maybe things are indeed being mitigated.
And you, Claude?
We’ve also seen some reports of problems with Claude today, and rightly so Claude’s status page has been updated – and with a much more positive progression than Google’s system.
The problem was flagged early, was identified quickly, and as of a few hours ago “a fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.”
If you have any ongoing issues with Claude, let us know in the comments!
A steady rise
We won’t get an official update from Google until at least 12.30pm PDT / 8.30pm BST, which is when most Australians will be tucked up in bed (5.30am AEST tomorrow).
Until then, the best you can do is try the short-term solutions mentioned below (such as the ‘double-tap resubmit’ technique if you get the ‘error 1076’ message), and also cross your fingers that Google doesn’t push back the promised update again…
Oh, still no update from Google…
We expected an update from Google on today’s Gemini issues at 9.30am PDT / 5.30pm BST on their Workspace Status Dashboard – but it has now been pushed back again until 12.30pm PDT / 8.30pm BST.
There are now popular Reddit threads exclaiming that they are “shocked that Google hasn’t addressed the Gemini outage”. And while Google has posted some basic information on the aforementioned dashboard, it’s surprising that its long-promised update on the situation has been continually pushed back with no real explanation.
From my memory, the length of this outage is completely unprecedented for Gemini and any major Google product in recent years – well, at least since the Google News crashed and made us all use Bing News, at least…
This is a global outcome
In case you were wondering, today’s Gemini issues are affecting everyone around the world across all platforms – which is at least a small bit of comfort.
Check pretty much every country on Downdetector and you’ll see spikes in reported Gemini issues – while users from the US to Italy, Portugal, Thailand, Greece, Bosnia, France, Belgium all report the same issues on various Reddit threads.
In short, this is a big one – and we expect an update from Google on the situation very soon…
Google withdraws its promised update
Oh dear, Google’s incident report about its The Workspace Status Dashboard has just been updated with a new time for the update we were promised – it will now be at 9.30am PDT / 5.30pm BST, which tomorrow at 2.30am AEST for those in Australia.
Clearly, this is far from a simple fix, with reports now scraping the 1,500 mark in the US on Downdetector, although they have recently dropped in the UK.
According to our poll at the top of this page, most of you (89%) get either an ‘error 1076’ or ‘error 1099’ message when sending new messages, with a minority (11%) simply being pushed back to the message box or simply unable to send new ones.
The ‘Error 1076’ solution
Since many of us still struggle with ‘error 1076’ messages when writing new prompts in Gemini, here’s a reminder of a small workaround.
This error message is usually due to a handshake or connection timeout error (according to Gemini), which means that your request takes a while to establish a secure link, so the request is effectively aborted.
But if you quickly hit send again on your prompt, it will go through since the connection path is already established. I initially got the ‘error 1076’ message when I entered the prompt above, but quickly hitting enter again pushed it through.
Not ideal, but a short-term fix while we wait for a proper one from Google…
It’s 4.5 hours and counting…
These Gemini problems are becoming some of the longest we’ve seen this year – it’s now been just over four hours since reports first started rising on Downdetector, and they’ve just hit a new US high of 1,407.
There have been no more updates from Google as its Workspace Status Dashboard still promises us an update at 8am PDT / 4pm BST. The issues continue to be a mix of ‘error 1099’ and ‘error 1076’ messages, or just being thrown back to the prompt text box when you type in a new one.
If you’re still having trouble, let us know in the poll at the top of this page.
Google promises us an update soon
It is promised that the update on the situation has now been pushed back to 8am PDT / 4pm BST, so there will likely be a bit of a wait until we know more.
Google says “we apologize to anyone affected by the disruption” – in the US, reports of problems recently hit a new high of 1,168, while in the UK they continue to hover around the 450 mark.
Officially under investigation
Google has officially identified this as a problem, but it hasn’t really shed further light on the matter. The The Google Workspace Status dashboard says that there is indeed an “Incident affecting Gemini,” and the specific incident report says that “Our engineering team continues to investigate the issue.” But that’s it.
We may know more soon because Google says: “We will provide an update by Wednesday, 2026-06-10 06:30 PDT”.
Still bubbling away
Today’s Google Gemini issues haven’t developed into a full global outage, but the error messages aren’t going away either.
Here in the UK the reports have stabilized at around the 450 mark on the Downdetector (above) but are starting to move in the wrong direction. In the US they’ve dropped a bit to around the 610 mark over the last 30 minutes, but many continue to report getting the same ‘error 1706’ and ‘error 1099’ messages we’ve been experiencing.
There’s still no official word from Google on what the problem is or when it might be fixed.
The error messages continue
Am I the only one who has Gemini not currently working with a workspace account? error 1076 and 1099 when starting new prompt, same on web and app, user did not reach quotas.@GeminiApp @Google10 June 2026
Social media sites like X (above) are beginning to be flooded with frustrated messages from Google Gemini users.
Like @SenorZatara above, we’ve seen both ‘error 1076’ and ‘error 1099’ messages after typing a new prompt across both the web and the app. Gemini says error 1076 means “Gemini hits a wall with a specific chat thread”, possibly due to browser memory overload.
The ‘error 1099’ message, meanwhile, is “almost always a server-side problem on Google’s end rather than a problem with your device”. Gemini suggests trying to log out and back in, or just be patient – saying it “often resolves itself automatically within a few hours as the server load stabilizes”.
Which is probably not what you want here if you’re trying to finish a project by a deadline…
Issues across desktop and mobile
We’re seeing the annoying ‘error 1076’ and ‘error 1099’ messages on Gemini across both its web and mobile versions, so this doesn’t seem to be platform specific.
This seems to be the case for most people affected – on Downdetector, 57% of reports in the US are to the app, while 36% are from people experiencing problems online.
Many have reported trying different phones and accounts with no success, so it seems the only solution (for now) is to immediately re-enter your prompt (see below).
A temporary solution
While many on the TechRadar team are getting various “something went wrong” error messages, there appears to be a temporary fix to the issues.
Typing the same query into the Gemini chat box right away seems to make it work. It’s not something we want to do all day, but it’s a short-term fix while Google fixes the issues.
Reports are increasing
We first notice the Gemini issues on the TechRadar team, with many of us experiencing error messages or simply being thrown back to the prompt screen. And according to Downdetector, we’re not alone – with reported issues now rising there.
We’ve experienced a variety of error messages, from ‘error 1099’ to ‘error 1076’ (a personal favorite of mine), which are apparently a “handshake or initial connection timeout error” (according to Gemini).
But right now there are no official issues on the Gemini status page. It will be interesting to see if that changes soon if reports continue to mount…
