Indie horror film Occupation is still doing surprisingly big numbers at the box office even after a few weeks in theaters.
In its fifth weekend, the film earned an additional $19 million in North America, according to Black.
It was only down about 25 percent from the previous weekend, showing that it’s still holding strong compared to most films at this stage.
The film was directed by Curry Barker and was made on a very small budget of less than a million dollars.
Despite that, it went on to become a massive global success as the dark psychological drama opened with $17 million in May and has now reached around $188.3 million in the US and around $265 million worldwide.
However, this success has now done Occupation the biggest release ever for Focus Features and also the highest-grossing horror film of 2026 so far.
Reports also say that it achieved something rare by growing in its second and third weekends, something not seen since ET The Extra Terrestrial in 1982 outside of holiday periods.
The story is about a young man who uses a strange object called the One Wish Willow to win over his love interest, but things quickly turn dark when his wish doesn’t go as he expects.
Actor Inde Navarrette also shared that she had a strange connection to the film before joining it, adding more attention to the project.
