US officials have confirmed that US help with Pakistan, like other countries, has been temporarily suspended, resulting in stops of several key development projects.
Recently, the US Ministry of State instructed all diplomatic and consular missions to immediately suspend foreign aid programs. This measure is originally for 90 days and applies to help to countries such as Ukraine, Taiwan, Jordan and others.
According to US officials, all Pakistan utilities have been suspended pending a reassessment, Express News reported.
As a result of this decision, several sectors have been affected.
The US Directive has suspended the ambassador’s fund for cultural preservation projects and closed five important energy sector projects.
The US Department of State also affected four economic growth -related programs in Pakistan, while five agricultural development projects have had their help stopped.
In addition, funding for democracy, human rights and government-related programs has been temporarily stopped, and four educational and four health projects have also been suspended. In addition, 11 government -related projects have been influenced by this American decision.
US officials declared that this decision is temporary and after reassessing all aid programs, the future of these projects will be decided.
Trump signed an executive order shortly after joining his second period on January 20, instructing all federal agencies to complete a 90-day break on foreign development assistance and to review existing programs.
The order reads, “It is US policy that no further US foreign assistance must be paid out in a way that is not fully in line with foreign policy for the President of the United States.”
Shortly thereafter, the US Department of State issued a memo that announced the suspension of almost all new funding for foreign aid programs, with exceptions made to the country’s most important Middle Eastern allies, Israel and Egypt.
The order also enabled an exemption from relief and related expenses.
In a statement on Sunday, the department defended the measures and quoted President Trump: “President Trump clearly stated that the United States will no longer blindly wipe out money without the return of the American people.”
