Capital launches first ever ‘Mehfooz Muharram’ app for digital security monitoring

In a first for the federal capital, the authorities have developed a special digital application, “Mehfooz Muharram” (Safe Muharram), as part of comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, with complete Pakinomist-tagging of all imambargahs, religious congregations and procession routes, along with drone-based digital surveillance.

The measures were reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, which reviewed the security and administrative preparations for the Muharram celebrations on Thursday.

Officials informed the gathering that the newly launched “Mehfooz Muharram” app would enable citizens to report suspicious persons, suspicious activities or inadequate security arrangements.

The application will also provide live location sharing and image sharing features to help authorities respond quickly to potential security issues.

A central control room has been established in Safe City Islamabad to monitor security operations and coordinate responses during the holy month.

The minister directed the authorities to implement a comprehensive traffic management plan and ensure a four-layer security cordon around all religious gatherings and processions. He also ordered strict checking procedures at all entry and exit points on procession routes and places where majalis are hosted.

Naqvi emphasized the importance of ground surveillance and directed all relevant officers to remain present in the field throughout Muharram. He further directed officials to ensure timely and adequate food and refreshment arrangements for security personnel deployed on duty.

The Home Minister stressed the need for close coordination with religious scholars to maintain peace and public order. He also called for strict adherence to the code of conduct and directed the authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards provocative or inflammatory material.

During the briefing, Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of Police presented a detailed overview of the security preparations. Officials informed the gathering that security audits of all majalis and processions had been completed while peace and Nigehban committees had been activated to support law enforcement efforts.

Authorities expressed confidence that the coordinated security framework and enhanced technological surveillance would help ensure a safe and peaceful Muharram in the capital.
