Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Aamir Farooq, heard the petition about the personal doctor of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, his meeting with his wife and a request to allow phone calls with his children.

Following statements from the Superintendent of Adiala Prison, Islamabad rejected the High Court petition with directions. Imran Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry and Superintendent of Adiala Prison, Ghafoor Anjum, appeared in court.

Chief Justice asked the Superintendent of Adiala prison for the facilities delivered to the petitioner, as the superintendent replied that all facilities were delivered under Category B, including TV, newspapers and a personal chef.

The superintendent of the Adiala prison also stated that weekly visits were allowed, but they had also relieved three to four visits. Before the verdict, Bushra Bibi (Imran Khan’s wife) was allowed to meet him, and after the criminal offense they continued to facilitate the meetings.

Chief Justice asked about the request to allow phone calls with her children, as the Superintendent of Adiala Prison replied that they could not facilitate international calls because there were 8,000 prisoners.

He explained that other prisoners could challenge it in court if such a privilege was awarded. He also mentioned that prisoners from 25 foreign countries were in prison and giving such calls could set a precedent.

According to prison rules and government policy, international calls are not allowed. He explained that when prisoners arrive, they get a code to make phone calls.

The superintendent also noted that regular meetings were arranged, but when the trial began, they were postponed. He mentioned that there were many people to meet and only a limited number of visitors were allowed. Chief Justice said he didn’t want to get involved.

Imran Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, claimed that private doctors had been allowed to meet with him and that Khan was allowed to read six newspapers, but only two were delivered.

The superintendent replied that the health facilities in the Adiala prison were among the best in Pakistan, where doctors provided daily control. He also confirmed that Imran Khan could watch 16 TV channels and got two newspapers. The court rejected the petition for providing prison facilities with instructions.

Previously, the IHC instructed the authorities to give the PTI foundation chairman, Imran Khan, to talk to his sons over the phone.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case related to IMRAN’s requests for various facilities while in prison, including access to a personal doctor, meets with his wife and phone calls with his children.

During the hearing, the court ordered that Khan’s wife and political leaders were allowed to visit him in accordance with prison rules. In addition, a phone call with IMRAN’s sons and medical treatment of his doctor was ordered.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan repeated his call to overseas Pakistanis to boycott the transmission of transfers in which he escalated political tensions when his party, PTI, faces the government.

“Once again, I urge overseas Pakistanis to continue their boycott of foreign currency transfers,” Khan said in a post about X. “Sending money to this government strengthens the very hands that tighten the noise around your throats.”

The appeal comes when negotiations between government and PTI started last month broke down this week. Deadlock followed PTI’s refusal to attend without legal commissions to investigate protests on May 9, 2023 and November 26, 2024.

Khan also called for nationwide demonstrations on February 8, marking the election in 2024 as a “Black Day.” PTI claims electoral rigging of the caretaker government and the Election Commission in Pakistan. Both units deny the claims.
