Fans inside the packed Seattle Stadium roared as the USMNT took the early 1-0 advantage.

Taking advantage of an own goal at the World Cup is rare. But capitalizing from one in back-to-back games is unprecedented. Friday’s match against Australia marked the first time in FIFA Men’s World Cup history that the same team had an own-goal advantage in consecutive matches.

Across the tournament’s history, only France has enjoyed more own goals than the United States.
