The latest edition of TechRadar’s roundup of streaming recommendations has arrived – and it’s another one of those rare weeks where we’ve picked eight new movies and shows instead of the usual seven.
In fact, with so many great movies and TV shows that have recently arrived (or are soon to land) on the world’s best streaming services, we really struggled to narrow down this list. Instead of dropping a project that deserves your attention, we thought ‘why don’t we just include them all?’. In short: we did, so read on to see what’s worth watching at home this weekend. — Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter
Project Hail Mary (MGM+)
Look at
Project Hi Maryaka Amazon’s hit sci-fi movie starring Ryan Gosling has finally made its streaming debut. Curiously, though, it hasn’t come to the company’s primary streamer in Prime Video, but to its smaller cousin MGM+. No, I don’t know why either.
Either way, if you missed the epic movie when it was in theaters, now’s your chance to see what all the fuss is about. Before you catch it, read my Project Hi Mary review to get the below on its plot and see what I thought of it. Then, after you’ve streamed it, check out my Project Hi Mary final explained piece to get answers to your biggest burning questions. — TP
House of the Dragon Season 3 (HBO Max)
Look at
Just four months after our last visit to the Game of Thrones universe with A knight of the seven kingdomsis it time to return to Westeros again for House of the Dragonthird season.
There are a lot of (dragons) running around House of the Dragon season 3 too. With some fans suggesting its progenitor wasn’t as good as it could have been, and behind-the-scenes drama between showrunner Ryan Condal and Thrones overlord George RR Martin, who wouldn’t look out of place in the latter’s high fantasy book franchise, the HBO Max TV Original’s latest chapter really needs to deliver.
So does it? Read my House of the Dragon season 3 review to find out for yourself. When you’re done, you can see when and where House of the Dragon season 3 episode 1 comes out where you live. — TP
Voicemails for Isabelle (Netflix)
Look at
Another batch of Netflix rom-coms this year? Yes, thank you. Amazingly, this one isn’t based on an existing novel, that is Voicemails for Isabelle has already distinguished itself from others already released this year.
Here’s the premise: When Jill (Zoey Deutch) leaves voicemails for her late sister telling her about her chaotic life in San Francisco, Austin-based realtor Wes (Nick Robinson) begins to receive their confessions. Behold, an unexpected romance is born.
In further great news for fans of Parks and RecreationNick Offerman also happens to play a chef here. – Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter
How to Make a Killing (HBO Max)
Look at
Black comedy movie This is how you make a kill streaming on HBO Max this weekend. It was ultimately a flop and received a lot of criticism upon its initial theatrical release, including in my This is how you make a killing review where I described it as a “rare bug” for the A24.
However, if you plan to watch it, This is how you make a killing centered around Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell), a man disowned by his wealthy family. Here we see as he fights back to claim his inheritance by picking them off one by one. — Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer
The Agency Season 2 (Paramount+)
Look at
Paramount+’s addictive spy thriller is back and reportedly better than ever. For the uninitiated: Michael Fassbender plays Brandon Colby, a spy under the pseudonym ‘Martian’.
There are plenty of tense interrogations and nail-biting scenes this time around. Season 2 picks up quickly after the dramatic finale of the first, and ‘Martian’ feels the pressure after becoming a double agent for MI6. In the midst of it all, he tries to manage his volatile relationship with Samia (Jodie Turner-Smith), who has been imprisoned in Sudan.
So Martian has a lot on his plate, which is good news for us at home because it means we’re all guaranteed to be on the edge of our seats. — LB
I Find You (Netflix)
Look at
Another Harlan Coben series landing on Netflix means we’ll be stuck and locked into the manageable. After Run away melted our minds in January, I will find you takes the chaos and raises it with a stunning child murder case.
We follow David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his son, Matthew. When his ex-sister-in-law and disgraced journalist Rachel (Britt Lower) finds evidence that Matthew may still be alive, the race is on to prove David’s innocence and find his son.
Expect crazy confessions and twists that will leave you with whiplash… and that’s just in the first episode. — JV
Your Fault: London (Prime Video)
Look at
As the latest in Prime Video’s hit Your fault film series, the London contingent has a lot to live up to. In fact, we’re picking up on the events of the previous film, with Noah (Asha Banks) and Nick (Matthew Broome) now in a fully fledged relationship.
That doesn’t sound all that out of the ordinary… until you learn the pair are step-siblings. Now they follow different paths, with Nick in business and Noah in Oxford. As always, they deal with new relationships and secrets. Let’s just hope they’re the ones we can handle. — JV
Sugar Season 2 (Apple TV)
Look at
The effortlessly cool Sugar returns for Season 2 of this Apple Original, and I certainly enjoyed my recent trip to this sunny LA location. It’s fantastic as always with its signature retro vibe, and our protagonist John Sugar (Colin Farrell) has brought several of his own personal demons along for the ride as well.
The life of a private investigator comes with a lot of stress, and Sugar feels it when the trail to track down his missing sister goes cold. So he takes on another case to keep himself busy, agreeing to help a boxer whose brother and trainer has also disappeared.
There are many more film noir references here and enough mystery to keep you interested. It’s another win for Apple TV and an enjoyable love letter to Old Hollywood. If you have already seen Sugar season 1 check min Sugar season 2 review for my full thoughts. — LB
