Falcons’ Jeff Ulbrich says lack of truth tale, delegation led to failed stint as jets temporary head coach

Previous New York Jets Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich says a lack of truth narrative and his lack of delegated delegates eventually led to his failed stint as a temporary head coach and another disappointing season for the organization.

In a speech with the media at his initial press conference such as Atlanta Falcons’ new defensive coordinator, Ulbrich was asked to reflect on his period with Jets after taking over as the main coach when Robert Saleh was fired only five games into the season.

“I learned even more than I knew the value of truth -tellers on your staff. I sometimes think as an assistant coach, you take it as ‘I want to remove any problem from the head coach’s table so he can just thrive and do his thing.’ When there are in fact … there are certain things to tell the head coach that occurs.

Ulbrich seemed to suggest that the lack of honesty from his coaching staff during this period was an important contributing factor to Jets’ failures.

“The lack of truth was sometimes truly harmful.”

Ulbrich also took accountability for his lack of delegation, specifically his defensive coordinator responsibility.

“There’s an element of a failure for myself that way because I didn’t delegate it. I didn’t. I just took it on myself. In my mind I tried to create continuity and I didn’t want to break The staff.
