Claude was down for many – Anthropic says the outage is now ‘resolved’

Refresh

The outage is officially “resolved”

Anthropic has now confirmed that today’s Claude outage has been “resolved”. There was no official explanation for the “increased failure rates” – read, massive wobble – seen around the world. But after two Claude outages this month, let’s hope this is the last we see for a while.

Claude is recovering

I’m starting to feel like one of the last people still having issues with Claude as Downdetector is showing a significant drop in reported issues – and it’s now back to many others here on TechRadar.

The fix that Anthropic pushed out almost exactly an hour ago seems to do the trick. And just as I write, Claude has sprung back into life for me, albeit with a slight delay in his responses. Looks like this one is almost over, folks…

Claude is still fighting for many

While the number of reported Claude issues on Downdetector is falling – in the US they’re now at about half the peak from an hour ago – thousands are still struggling to get it working, including many of us at TechRadar.

For me there are some signs of life – instead of completely deleting my prompt or giving me a “this model is not available right now” error message, Claude now “thinks” when I ask it something.

Greater than last outcome

We don’t have to look too far back for the last significant Claude outage – it was just three weeks ago on June 2nd. But this one is definitely bigger.

These previous releases were related to its latest Opus 4.6 model, but this outage is across all models and all Claude platforms – except those lucky enough to be on Claude for the government.

We are way over the hour limit

Claude is still very down for me and thousands of others – and it’s now well over an hour since the problems started around 10.53 ET / 14.53 BST.

The latest from Anthropic’s status page is still that “a fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results”. So far it hasn’t been reflected in the numbers, but in theory we should see an improvement pretty quickly.

Seeking solace in memes

Some Claude models are down and I hope you’re not from r/ClaudeAI too

As the Claude troubles continue for many, Reddit is responding the only way it knows how – with comforting memes.

However, they could be promising news on the horizon – Anthropic’s latest post on the Claude Status page (at 10:53 ET / 15:53 BST) says that “a fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results”.

This looks more worrying

While reports of Claude issues on Downdetector have dropped slightly in the last half hour, they’re still very high — and Anthropic’s status page (above) shows a “major outage” across all of its platforms, except Claude for government.

This means that Claude’s chat interface, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and its API all have issues right now, making this a fairly broad outage affecting many.

Does the fix work?

It’s early days, but today’s reported Claude issues have just taken a small dip on Downdetector – they’re still high at over 6,000 in the US at the time of writing, but that’s down from a high of 7,119 just over half an hour ago.

Hopefully it’s the work of Anthropic’s engineers, with the latest post on Claude’s status page saying “the issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented”.

Problems across all models

Today’s Claude issues are unfortunately not limited to just one model – we’re seeing issues across all models and on both paid and free accounts.

Right now Claude is either “considering” his answers indefinitely or telling us “this model is not available right now”. According to Downdetector, the issue also affects both the chat interface and Claude Code.

Lots of red is never a good sign

This is the current situation on Anthropic’s status page for Claude – there is good news and bad news.

While there are indeed “increased failure rates” across “multiple models” on the Claude, which I’ve also experienced, it looks like the company already has a fix in the pipeline.
