Base blockchain resumes after two hours outage interrupted network

Coinbase-backed Ethereum layer-2 network Base resumed block production on Thursday after a roughly two-hour outage that halted the blockchain.

In an update, the Base team said that the chain has resumed functioning and that internal nodes were syncing properly, although it continues to investigate the cause of the incident. The team also advised ecosystem node operators to restart their base nodes to restore synchronization.

The first public indication of trouble came at 16:03 UTC when Base reported that mainnet block production was “unhealthy”. At 16:52 UTC, the team said it had identified a problem and was pursuing several remedial measures.

The incident temporarily halted transaction processing on one of Ethereum’s largest layer-2 networks. Base has not yet revealed what caused the invalid block, or whether the problem stemmed from a software bug or some other consensus-related error.

The network has also previously been out of service in August 2025.

The team said it will continue to monitor network stability and provide further updates as its investigation continues.
