Ryan Reynolds has opened up about a terrifying accident from his teenage years that left him badly injured and in hospital for weeks.

The 49-year-old actor shared the story during a recent interview with GQwhile chatting with his Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney. Reynolds revealed he was just 18 when a drunk driver hit him while walking home in Vancouver.

He explained that he had been drinking so he made the decision not to drive his car.

“I went back and I looked at my car for a second and I was like, ‘you know what, I don’t want to drive anywhere, even if it’s four blocks home, absolutely not,'” Reynolds recounted.

The Deadpool and Wolverine actor then crossed the road where the accident happened.

“I was hit by a drunk driver after making a decidedly positive and wise decision for a young, 18-year-old man,” he recalled.

The Free guy however, the star added that he spent four weeks in hospital following the horrific crash.

“Spent four weeks in the hospital. Broke every bone in my left side. He hit me so hard, his car was inoperable,” he continued, while also thanking the doctor who treated him.

Blake Lively’s husband has also previously also spoken about the accident in an interview from 2011 and revealed that he was unconscious after the crash and woke up three days later in hospital. Looking back on that life-changing moment, Ryan admitted, “Since then I’ve been a frail, broken mess.”
