Ever since he retired, Clay Matthews has spent plenty of time on the field – just not Gridiron.
The Green Bay Packers legend is not only part of a legendary football family, but he was bred a hunter and does the same for his children.

Matthews was one of four EX-NFL players nominated for Colt’s Safety Impact Award, designed to raise and reinforce nonprofit organizations pushing the envelope into the safety and education of the firearm.

Matthews has supported Project Childsafe, a charity that he says hits close to home as the father of three children, all under 10 years.
“This was a natural fit to work with Colt to get together about something that means a lot to me, giving back and promoting this training of firearms,” Matthews said in a recent conversation with Pakinomist Digital.

“[Project ChildSafe does] Such a fantastic job at this comprehensive education, from providing free locks to firearms to actual safes, working with local law enforcement, it was just a no-brainer … Project Child Safe just appointed with me. “
Fans can vote for their favorite player until Friday at SafetyIMpactaward.com, and for each role crew, Colt will donate $ 1 (up to $ 10,000) to the winner. Plus, if a security happens in the Super Bowl Lix, fans will have a chance to win $ 100,000.
“After all, this is a competition, so I ask you to vote for my charity,” said Matthews as he is up against Fletcher Cox, Joe Thomas and Adam Vinatieri.

Matthews said his soon-to-be 10-year-old son wants to go on a deer hunt while his 5-year-old “wants to sit in the blind for the turkey hunting season in the coming year.” The kids are also dressed in “Camo and Blaze Orange,” he admits.
“People can guess what type of family we are,” he joked.
However, with that comes a lot of responsibility, and Matthews gave advice to his colleagues in firearms on how to keep everyone safe.
“First, they have locked in at all times. My children from a young age have been brought up around firearms, whether hunting, recreational shooting, clustering, no matter what it may be, but they understand Dad is responsible for it. You don ‘I have free reins.

“And just attention to security, really knowing where the barrel is pointed, finger out of the trigger, things that seem easy for most gun owners, but when you raise children to be in that lifestyle to shoot firearms, you have Just have to teach and recover at a young age.
“My dad did a great job with me. I know I was the baby, ‘Dad, can I see this? Can I see that?’ ‘No, no, no.’ But when I got out there, there was a responsibility that I felt I had grown up in that environment and hopefully my children will have the same.
Prior to their deer hunting day, Matthews said he will take his eldest son out for practice – probably after a flag football match.

“I was raised in southern California, so I didn’t have the opportunity to be out in the field all the time, but I’ve always had this drive for outdoor and firearms,” he said. “So for me I love to share this with them.”
