The petition questions the legality of the proceedings initiated against him on this basis
ISLAMABAD:
The Federal Constitutional Court (FFC) has fixed the disqualification case of PTI MNA Sohail Sultan for a hearing. A two-member bench headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi will hear the case on July 8. The court has issued notices to the ECP, the Attorney General and other respondents.
Sultan challenged the speaker’s reference and the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) jurisdiction to proceed against him on allegations that he was a government employee before contesting the general elections.
The ECP had filed a case against the PTI lawmaker based on a reference alleging that he was serving as a government employee before contesting the general elections.
The FCC had earlier restrained the ECP from proceeding against Sultan until the case was settled. Before contesting the general elections, Sultan served as the Assistant Solicitor General of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The petition questions the legality of the proceedings initiated against him on this basis.
The PHC had granted him interim measures on October 17, 2024 and had stayed the proceedings initiated by the ECP on the impugned reference.
