While some in the WNBA may not recognize it, LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam certainly does: Caitlin Clark is great for women’s sports.

In a recent interview with Pakinomist Digital, Sorenstam talked about how Clark has helped bring a new demographic into golf.

“She’s obviously very popular. She’s bringing a new demographic to the game and when she’s there playing pro-am I mean we’ve got a lot of people coming in and wanting her autograph. Following her and every shot and she’s just great for women’s sports and we love having her a part of it,” Sørenstam told Pakinomist Digital.

Sørenstam plays in the American Century Championship on Friday and is one of the candidates to win the tournament. Clark is unable to play in the celebrity golf tournament due to the WNBA schedule, but believes Clark would do well.

Clark has played in the ANNIKA Pro-Am, and Sørenstam has been impressed by her game.

“I think she would do pretty well (at the American Century Championship.) I mean, as you know, she’s quite an athlete. That’s kind of the obvious. But she loves golf. She’s played golf for many years, and I know that every time she gets a chance, she goes on the course,” says Sørenstam to Pakinomist Digital.

Sørenstam is one of the favorites to win the tournament. Sorenstam, who won 72 LPGA Tour events, including 10 majors, during her illustrious career, will raise awareness for the Annika Foundation.

“We’re trying to empower and advance young women through the game of golf, but also in life, different life skills, and it’s been really rewarding and fulfilling to see how far women’s golf has come and how many of these young women are pursuing their dreams. It’s been a lot of fun and just seeing the difference we’re making in these young women’s lives,” Sorenstam said.

With the Stableford scoring format, Sørenstam talked about being more aggressive and chasing more birdies and eagles. The tournament will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
