England footballer Jordan Henderson has shared an update after suffering a gruesome arm injury while celebrating his side’s World Cup Round of 16 victory over Mexico.

Henderson attempted to jump over the billboard after England topped Mexico 3-2 at the Mexico City Stadium in one of the best games at the World Cup. However, his hand slipped off the top of the boards and he hit the deck hard and awkwardly.

The fall left Henderson with a broken wrist.

It was revealed earlier this week that Henderson had opted for surgery, ruling him out of England’s quarter-final against Norway and the rest of the tournament.

On Wednesday, he gave an update that he had undergone surgery in Kansas City, where the Three Lions have been based throughout this World Cup.

Here’s to hoping Henderson is on the mend, because this is a brutal way to have your WC cut short.

There are few things in sports as brutal as getting injured while celebrating. It’s the ultimate high, followed by the ultimate, ego-crushing low.

And it’s not like Henderson did anything stupid like try to pop the ball over the bar or impress the crowd with James Brown splits. He was just trying to jump over the billboards, something he’s probably done hundreds of times.

But all it took was for one of those boards to be a bit slippery and that was all she wrote. The next thing you know, he’s being taken off on a stretcher… for a broken wrist.

It’s a harsh way to go out and it could have happened to anyone.
