The 2026 MotoGP season has already been one to cherish. Jorge Martin, who reigned supreme two years ago but had to sit out much of the last campaign with a series of injuries, leads the riders’ championship at the midway point, but it has been anything but straightforward.
The Spaniard’s Aprilia Racing team-mate Marco Bezzecchi had roared out of the blocks with three straight Grand Prix wins followed by two second-place finishes, but it has all gone wrong in recent weeks. The 27-year-old Italian’s sprint struggles were bad enough, and then he hit a marshal after a crash and earned himself a suspension.
Although Martin’s recent form has not been great, it has still been good enough to catapult him above Bezzecchi in the standings. Reigning seven-time champion Marc Marquez, meanwhile, has overcome a broken foot to confirm his own ambitions.
While consistency has set Fabio Di Giannantonio firmly in the frame, Ai Ogura hopes to bring out something a little more extravagant. The SuperFile Trackhouse man has become the first Japanese rider to win a MotoGP race since Makoto Tamada 22 years ago. Some 51 years have passed since a Japanese rider topped the MotoGP standings.
