The first trailer for DiggerTom Cruise’s next film has now been released – and it Mission: Impossible star emerges as he has never done before.
Cruise is seen in heavy prosthetic makeup, transforming into someone who, according to the film’s synopsis, is “an incredibly powerful corrupt oil tycoon who embarks on a frantic mission to prove himself the savior of mankind.”
Look at
Directed by Birdman and The RevenantAlejandro G. Iñárritu, its supporting cast includes Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy. Digger will be in cinemas worldwide from 2 October 2026.
Unsurprisingly, the internet is freaking out over Cruise’s new look. “Seeing an old Tom Cruise is crazy,” reads one YouTube comment, while another says: “The biggest physical transformation Tom Cruise has had since Tropical Thunder.”
With so much mayhem happening at once, it’s still anyone’s guess how the whole movie will play out. But in my opinion, Cruise is the least exciting part of what’s to come.
Opinion: Digger will finally make Sandra Hüller the Hollywood leading lady she deserves to be
Despite being nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in 2024 for her lead role in Anatomy of a fallHüller still hasn’t cemented her status as leading lady.
Since then she has had supporting roles in Project Hi Mary, the zone of interest, and a yet-to-be-released drama from Cannes Fatherland. However, I have a feeling about it Digger will finally give her the global recognition she deserves.
Why? One simple answer: Tom Cruise. Aside from his death-defying stunts, the actor has made a name for himself through his consistent kindness and willingness to show up. Not only does he do this for his fans — just look at every press tour he’s done in the last 10 years — but he also does it for his co-stars.
On time Digger is is being promoted worldwide, I can guarantee that Cruise will spend the entire time singing Hüller’s praises. He’s a man who brings them around him on the way up… and his own performance is likely to be a major talking point for the 2026-2027 awards season. If Hüller isn’t a routine Hollywood booking after this, I’m at a loss for words. Know talent when you see it, folks.
