- App update brings tabbed navigation, speaker/room sorting, and dynamic volume slider to iOS
- Rollout in stages so it doesn’t reach everyone at the same time
- It may take up to two weeks to arrive
Sonos users may not have to keep creating alternative apps for their systems: the official app is getting a significant update rolling out now. It’s a gradual rollout, so not everyone will get it at once, but it should reach everyone’s devices within the next fortnight.
Sonos wrote on Reddit: “We have a new Sonos App update and it’s a big one.” In addition to the usual bug fixes, there are significant interface improvements and on iOS also a new volume interface.
According to ShaunFromSonos, you won’t have to wait more than two weeks for the update on iOS or Android, and the timescale is “probably faster.” Provided you’ve enabled Automatic Updates, you’ll get it as soon as it’s rolled out to your device.
July 2026 Sonos app update: what’s new?
Coming to the Sonos app and player, the update delivers clear tabbed navigation with buttons to clearly show what’s been selected, and more prominent options for Home, System and Search. This navigation change is optional, so to enable it, go into the app settings and turn on Enable Enhanced Navigation.
The app will now let you rearrange speakers and rooms directly. You can sort alphabetically by frequency of use and by which speakers are currently playing sound. You can also pin your favorite speakers for quick access. As with the interface changes, this is opt-in and requires you to enable the improved navigation.
On iOS, there’s a new volume slider that gets bigger as you interact with it, and it displays the number in the slider so you can see exactly what volume level you’ve selected.
Initial responses seem pretty positive so far, with one poster noting that the search function works much faster on Android. Sonos is actively seeking feedback here, so if you’ve already got the update, they want to know what you think about the app update Reddit thread.
