Geno Smith’s offseason continues to involve law enforcement following a traffic stop that occurred in Florida last week.
Smith, who is reuniting with the New York Jets this year after a season with the Las Vegas Raiders, was pulled over by a Davie Police Department officer on July 6 after being cited for driving well over the speed limit in a 45-mph zone.
The incident was caught on police bodycam, with Smith, who was driving a 2025 Aston Martin, being complimented by the officer who made the traffic stop before telling him what he was doing wrong.

“Okay, sir,” the officer was heard saying to Smith in the bodycam footage. “Nice car. Seventy miles an hour, man. That’s too fast for 45.”
Smith was then asked to give the officer his license and registration, but he said he had neither. He also noted that the vehicle was registered to a friend.

“I live right here; my license and everything is in my house,” Smith told the officer.
After taking down Smith’s information, the officer told him to keep his physical ID on him at all times, to which the quarterback replied, “My bad.”

The officer returned to Smith’s vehicle with two tickets, one for not having his license present for the traffic stop and the other for speeding.
It’s the third time this offseason that Smith has needed to speak with Davies police officers. In April, it drove a Rolls Royce with inappropriate markings, where he and the officer had quite an exchange in another bodycam moment. Smith ended up telling the officer to “do your job better” despite being told that Smith’s offense was “untagged vehicle.”
A more serious conversation with officers came when a woman claimed on Instagram in June that Smith “hit my a- because he HATE taking care of his special needs child and can’t be alone with him because he’d rather watch s*x online and play Call of Duty.”

The California Post and ESPN reported that police were called to Smith’s home in Davie, but no arrests were made. The investigation has since been closed, with no charges against Smith in the case, according to multiple reports.
Smith is preparing for his 13th season in the NFL, but his fifth with the Jets after playing his first four years with the organization that took him in the second round out of West Virginia in 2013.
Smith’s first stint in New York was quite a turbulent time, which included a demotion after starting his first two seasons and getting punched in the face by Jets teammate IK Enemkpali during a locker room altercation in 2015. The hit broke his jaw and required surgery that sidelined Smith for several weeks.

Smith has been a different quarterback and person since then, maturing on and off the field when given opportunities elsewhere. However, it was with Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks that Smith had a career revitalization, earning the starting gig in 2022 and leading the Seahawks to 9-8 that year to earn his first Pro Bowl nod.
The quarterback spent five years in Seattle before being traded to the Raiders prior to this past season. But after going 2-13 in his 15 starts there, the Raiders traded Smith back to the Jets.
