- Squarerspace launches new limited release tool
- Features include a limited-time cart, purchase quantity limits, and low-stock badges
- Available globally now, but limited to some subscription plans
From game consoles to toilet roll, there are countless examples of how scarcity can make a product more desirable. Whether it’s a clever marketing tactic or a simple supply problem, limited availability drives FOMO. Now, Squarespace, one of the largest website builders on the market, has launched new tools to help users with limited releases and product “drops”.
So whether you’re looking to build anticipation behind a one-off t-shirt design or want to limit seating in an exclusive yoga class, Squarespace aims to equip sellers with everything they need to turn a limited-availability product or service into the hottest buy on the web.
Driving is urgent
Key features of Squarespace’s new tool include:
- A reserved cart feature that stores items under the checkout for a limited time, with a countdown timer that helps drive urgency and replenishes inventory if the user fails to check out
- Inventory management tools that allow retailers to set quantity limits, preventing individuals from sweeping inventory while creating a sense of exclusivity
- Hassle-free checkout that offers a shortcut to checkout so customers don’t have to navigate away from the store page to view their cart and check out
- Hype generation tools, including low inventory badges and email campaigns, to help merchants build anticipation and signal scarcity.
“We’re seeing contractors shift away from always-on discount models to highly curated, exclusive releases that celebrate the value of their work,” said Kevin Doerr, president of Squarespace. “With our new limited edition sales tools, we put entrepreneurs in control of when and how they sell – reducing the operational burden and giving them everything they need to build hype, manage surges in demand and deliver a seamless payment experience.
According to a press release shared with TechRadar earlier this week, limited publishing tools are available globally, although availability varies depending on your subscription plan.
