After initially being scheduled to take place in the Australian state of Victoria, the 2026 Commonwealth Games are now set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 23, starting with the opening ceremony at the OVO Hydro indoor arena.
More than 3,000 athletes from 74 nations will compete for 200 gold medals across 10 sports (16 disciplines, including para-sports), such as athletics, swimming, track cycling, netball, basketball and more.
Compared to the 31 sports of Birmingham 2022, Glasgow 2026 will include just 10 sports, with events such as hockey, diving, rugby sevens and cricket all removed. This is to meet rising costs – the same reason Victoria pulled out as host in the first place.
