Looking for a different day?
A new NEW Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone – meaning some people always play ‘today’s game’ while others play ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for the Wednesday puzzle instead then click here: NEW Strand’s Hints and Answers for Wednesday, July 22 (Game #871).

NEW Strands today (game #872) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #872, are…
- ADMIRAL
- LIEUTENANT
- COMMANDER
- ALONE
- RECRUITERS
- SPANGRAM: NAVY RANKS
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
I don’t know much about the military, but I do know that a chief officer has something to do with ships.
Armed with this little piece of common knowledge, I was able to land a spangram first when I saw NAVYRANKS running down the middle of the board.
After this I went for the only ranks I was sure of and found ADMIRAL and the annoyingly hard to spell and cunningly hidden LIEUTENANT. Landing these two helped ease the rest of the board as I navigated without any hints – plain sailing, you might say.
