Huzzah, another weekend is upon us — and amid the lack of new movies hitting theaters today (July 24), you might be inclined to stay home and watch one of the following seven must-see movies and TV shows instead.
There are a few new releases that we couldn’t squeeze into this week’s streaming roundup – sorry, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 and The Dinke. Nevertheless, I’m sure you’ll find something to your liking among those we’ve listed below. And what if I said that The Big Bang Theory spinoff Stuart fails to save the universe was better than the original series? No one expected awkward comic shop owner Stuart’s storyline to continue from the main show, but in retrospect it’s a glorious move.

Aang everyone grew up in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, but that doesn’t mean the original magic has gone anywhere. The film’s grasp of perspective, movement and detail is absolutely astonishing, moving through the four nations with such awe-inspiring wonder that you want to live in every frame.
Time may have changed how they look, but their goofy and fun-loving personalities certainly haven’t… and the animation captures exactly what’s been missing from Netflix’s live-action adaptation. — JV
72 Hours (Netflix)

This new Netflix movie stars Kevin Hart as a 40-year-old who ends up on a three-day bachelor party with strangers, resulting in another silly Hart-led venture that’s perfect if you need a laugh this weekend.
How did he end up there, you might ask? Well, he was mistakenly added to a group chat and went along for the ride as he traveled from New York to Miami to join the festivities. An excuse to party by the beach, I suppose.
It’s not so idyllic, however, as the trailer teases trouble with the law and other mishaps, including being stung by a jellyfish. Better him than me. — Lucy Buglass, Senior Entertainment Writer

As far as weekend watches go, you really can’t beat an over-the-top, violent thrill ride like this. If you are a fan of The boysKarl Urban’s portrayal of Johnny Cage has been widely praised, with some noting that it’s worth seeing just for him. — LB
Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston (Hulu/Disney+)

A National Geographic series in three parts, Pompeii: Out of Time follows Hiddleston as he tracks down a trio of individuals caught up in the natural disaster. Armed with fresh archaeological evidence and backed by a team of experts, Hiddleston explores how these people not only navigated one of the worst humanitarian crises in the ancient world, but may have even survived the deadly events of 79 AD.
Part educational, part moving drama, Pompeii: Out of Time is now out in its entirety on Disney+ and Hulu. — TP
Ransom Canyon Season 2 (Netflix)

I don’t need all my television to be profound, life-changing, or even that meaningful. Sometimes I just want to turn off my brain and pretend I live in a quaint country town Ransom Canyon on the other side of the world where everyone has an unrelenting drama but me.
In Season 2, the land feud between Double K and the Fuller ranches has escalated, local bar owner Quinn has left for New York despite his on-off relationship with rancher Staten, and mysterious newcomer Yancy has revealed to new love interest Ellie that he has a secret wife.
Season 1 was already a strong outing, but now that the show knows itself a little more, Season 2 is easily on par with the strongest seasons of Virgin Riverthe streamer’s most iconic “comfortable drama” IP. — JV
Masters of the Universe (Prime Video)

One of several mid-2026 movie releases to bomb at the box office, Amazon has raised the proverbial white flag on its live-action Masters of the Universe the film’s theatrical run. In short: it means you can now watch it on Prime Video.
Based on the Mattel-owned media franchise of the same name, the action-fantasy film tells the story of Adam, the crown prince of Eternia and owner of a mysterious weapon called the Power Sword that, when used, turns him into the superhuman known as He-Man. Together with his allies, the formerly exiled Adam must realize his potential and overthrow the evil Skeletor, who took control of Adam’s hometown of Eternos – and its throne – 15 years earlier.
