- Sony has announced changes to PS Plus
- From January 2026 monthly PS4 games are no longer regularly on service
- Fewer PS4 games also come to the game catalog
Sony has announced some changes to its PlayStation Plus subscription service that cuts down on the number of monthly PS4 titles that will be offered in the future.
As explained on a recent post to the PS blog, Sony has noticed that “many” players “are currently playing on PS5 and has changed against redeeming and accessing PS5 titles from the monthly game and game catalog advantage.”
As a result, the PS Plus will “develop with this trend” and focus more on offering monthly PS5 games and adding more PS5 titles to the game catalog.
However, this shift will not occur immediately and is set to begin in January 2026. Sony notes that it “still provides titles that can be played on both PS4 and PS5” after this date but I would expect the number to be drastically reduced.
The blog post rounds off things by stating that the company “continues to develop the experience of PS Plus and optimize the benefits you receive” and appear to add new PS5 titles monthly to you to enjoy. “
This is definitely a shame, although it is not difficult to understand why this decision was made. PS5 was released in November 2024, so has been on the market for almost five years now. In contrast, PS4 came out in November 2013, more than a decade is old. Although many players are still stuck to their old machines, it would be quite strange to give benefits to them on such a dated console in its successor’s life.
