- Leaked Memo from Meta’s CTO teases a big year for reality labs
- Meta could launch several Ai laptops and new apps with mixed truth
- The memo says that 2025 will decide whether reality labs’ efforts “will go down as visionaries or legendary misadventure”
After Mark Zuckerberg’s comments about 2025, which is a “defining year” for Meta’s Smart-Glas plans, teases a leaked internal memo, which is apparently bound by Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth, some great things for XR and AI Tech, like its reality Labs Division is working on.
Shared by Business Insider, the note is the title “2025: The Year of Greatness” and was sent to Reality Labs staff last November. It is quite far and has a good bit of business motivating speech that is not so relevant here, but here is an excerpt from the beginning of the leaked memo – I have highlighted an important text, I will discuss more below:
“Next year will be the most critical year in my 8 years at Reality Labs. We have the best portfolio of products we’ve ever had on the market and pushing our advantage at Launching half a dozen several AI -driven wearables. We have to run sales, retention and commitment everywhere but Especially in mr. And Horizon -Worlds on Mobile Should Absolutely Break Out For our long -term plans to have a chance. If you do not feel the weight of the story on you, you are not alert. This year is likely to determine Whether this whole effort will go down as visionary’s work or a legendary misadventure. “
So we can see six Ai laptops, a tent pole-mix-reality title and a serious Horizon Worlds push. As of the last highlighted section, which, however, raises the prospect of failure from the lab’s lab, it should be noted that Bosworth’s comments are not as excessively dramatic as they appear.
While Reality Labs announced its highest revenue of $ 1.08 billion in Meta’s recent quarterly revenue report, it also released its biggest loss of $ 4.97 billion. The department has been bleeding of cash since 2020 in the pursuit of developing XR and AI Tech, and Bosworth’s comments suggest that Meta and its investors finally want to see a return on their investment. Fortunately for reality laboratories, the memo also teases how it can happen.
The roof literally suggests Bosworth’s comment “Half a dozen” that Meta has six AI -Bearing sleeves – and it sounds like they’re ready to be launched this year. If correct, this is significantly more than expected.
Based on leaks and teasing, we expected two 2025 hardware launches, maybe three by a push: the third gene meta ray-ran smart glasses teased by Mark Zuckerberg (which could include a display), Oakley versions of its existing second gen ai smart Glasses and maybe Oakley versions of its third gene specifications.
In addition to these, we had heard that Meta developed a kind of smartwatch/bracelet to control its glasses, and even camera-equipped earplugs marked Wearables four and five from our list-but earbuds are not expected to land anytime soon. Meanwhile, the bracelet was assumed to be more an addition than a full-on AI portable, so maybe there is even more unknown AI Metra Gadgets to be launched.
Based on what we think we know about Meta’s release plan, our money on Bosworth is not just talking about 2025 releases -which we know that Meta has other glasses on the way, including consumer versions of its Meta Orion AR -GLACKS – And that he was the use of “half a dozen” as a synonym for ‘more’ rather than an accurate figure for Meta’s output. Given that the line is taken from a leaked internal memo rather than an official statement, it is not so important for Bosworth to talk exactly why we lean this way.
However, if Meta actually releases more glasses than expected, our best guess is that we will either see Ray-Ban and (the rumor) Oakley, which was along with a third fire that adapts Meta’s Smart Glasses Tech to their design; Or, rather than the third genes, smart glasses and display-equipment specifications are one and the same product, it may be that they are different devices, to give the line both a high-end and affordable update.
The year with mixed reality

Mixed reality-as has an app on a VR headset, mixing real life and virtual elements for a single experience-have been on a major recovery since the launch of affordable full-colored mixed-reality headset as Meta Quest 3.
Unfortunately, in addition to some fun and innovative but admittedly limited experiences Starship Home and Infinite insideAs well as some lovely mixed-reality modes in larger VR titles, there is not yet a Tentpole MRI game or app in the same way as the most important campaigns for VR titles Asgards Wrath 2At Batman: Arkham Shadowor Resident Evil 4 VR.
Bosworth’s comments suggest that reality laboratories are helping to publish some major release of mixed reality this year that are getting closer to making MRI feel as fully realized as VR. Admittedly, these experiences are likely not to be on the extent of something similar Batman: Arkham Shadow -In consider that Mr. Titles are by nature more limited by the player’s place-but an HR stores beyond what we already know about (including games such as Laser dancewhich already looks amazing).
Horizon Worlds Reborn

Since the launch, Horizon Worlds Haven’t really been much to write home about – in fact, I didn’t quite realize it was even launched on Mobile yet. I only use it about once or twice a year to check out a concert in VR before letting it collect dust on my virtual game shelf. But I know that Meta has been working to expand the extent of Horizon WorldsWith not only players-made but game developer-made worlds that users can explore, and I am gently optimistic that the game can finally feel like a complete package-what I can’t say was how I felt when it was first released .
Meta probably hopes its Metaverse platform can steal some of success with the massively popular Roblox and Fortniteseam Horizon Worlds shares more similarities and more emphasis on Horizon Worlds’ MobilePort would help reach the audience who have not yet purchased a VR Headset.
It’s been somewhat surprising to see Meta fails so miserable so far with Horizon Worlds Given its social media -focused story with Facebook and Instagram, but maybe 2025 is the year, it finally turns Metaverse. I am careful optimistic that it can finally make the platform something I love, but I do not hold my breath.
