Faisal Chaudhry, the lawyer of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was briefly detained outside Adiala Prison following a heated argument with the prison staff.
According to sources, Chaudhry was detained after a confrontation with a prison officer, Imran Riyaz, who reportedly prevented him from entering the facility, Express News reported.
The incident took place when Chaudhry, who had gained prior access to visit Imran Khan, was denied entry at prison gates. This led to a verbal quarrel in which Chaudhry used offensive language against prison staff.
As a result, the authorities of the Adiala Prison made the decision to withhold the prominent lawyer.
Chaudhry approached the media outside the prison and claimed that the incident took place due to a misunderstanding regarding his entry.
He explained that the change took place at the internal gate to the plant, where he had already shared the legal instructions with prison superintendent via WhatsApp.
Chaudhry claimed that the prison officers who had registered the video of the exchange were responsible for escalating the situation.
The lawyer also suggested that his only ‘mistake’ publicly shared the statements from PTI’s founder, Imran Khan, outside the prison.
After the incident, Faisal Chaudhry was taken into custody and is now facing charges related to verbal abuse aimed at prison officers. He was reportedly released from the station after a short detention.
