Tiger Woods to play in Genesis Invitational, marking return to competition for the first time since the British Open

For the first time since the British Open in July, Tiger Woods is back in action on a golf course.

Woods, 49, obliged Friday to play 18 holes at Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines.

It will be the first time Woods is competing as he had a microdisectomy in September to relieve leg pain. It was the sixth operation he has undergone on the crucifix.

This is also the first time Woods is playing since the loss of his mother, Kultida Woods, who died Tuesday at the age of 80.

Normally, Genesis is an invitation at the Riviera Country Club, but the tournament was moved to Torrey Pines because of the fires that destroyed the Los Angeles community.

Woods has had a great success during his famous career at Torrey Pines, with eight wins on the public course with the Pacific.

Torrey Pines is the course in which Woods last ended in the top 10 at a PGA Tour event when he was in a draw for ninth at Farmers Insurance Open in 2020.

There is no cut at Genesis Invitational, which means Woods will go for all four days regardless of his performance.

The last time Woods played four rounds was on last year’s Masters when he broke the tournament record for most cuts made on the prestigious Major with his 24th consecutive clip.

Woods missed the clip at the other three major tournaments he played in.

The 15-time Master has competed in the indoor TGL league, which debuted on January 7, 2025.

Genesis Invitational begins February 13 and runs through February 16.
