- A rumor appeared and showed RTX 5060 with a 16GB variant
- This turned out to be a fake, unfortunately
- Debunkers has doubled with existing speculation: just RTX 5060 TI will offer 16 GB and 8 GB where RTX 5060 has only 8 GB
Nvidia’s RTX 5060 GPU does not come in a variant that has 16 GB of video RAM (unfortunately, but not surprising), or it is the latest from the rumor mill after a Tiktok video that raised hope from some PC players.
The video clip contained what was claimed to be Zotac RTX 5060 (and 5060 Ti) boxes, both of which showed 16 GB on them, suggesting that both of these RTX 5060 -flavors will offer a choice of 16 GB (as well as 8 GB ).
However, this was clearly counterfeit as both Chinese Tech Site Benchlife and Leaker Megasizegu on X pointed out.
This is fake. There is no plan for 5060 16g and the box is the photo shopping from the last gen Zotac box. You can see this from the DLSS3 brand and the cooler design. https://t.co/lq2ihom4k6February 8, 2025
In fact, this box of last GEN RTX 4000 GPUs has been changed, but without care for details, as the packaging still says ‘DLSS 3’ when Nvidia has moved on to DLSS 4 with its new Blackwell graphics cards. As Megasizegpu further notes, the cooler design is the same as the last gene products with these GPUs as well.
The current theory remains the same as before that the RTX 5060 TI will have a 16 GB spin plus an 8 GB version, while Vanilla RTX 5060 runs only 8 GB.
Benchlife claims it has confirmed with sources at graphics card manufacturers in China that the RTX 5060 actually just wants an 8 GB version.
Analysis: A Complex Vram -Balance Act – with a clear danger of going for lean
Before we are led away with the slope-freezing-water-on-fake-video-tin here, we must remember that even the existing rumor has been in place for a while of the RTX 5060, which has only 8 GB, is just that: a rumor. This may not be the case, but for me it is definitely a credible enough movement from Nvidia.
After all, the mirror video RAM configurations of the existing RTX 4060 models would. On top of that, with RTX 5070 with 12 GB of VRAM, it makes sense to keep the RTX 5060 below (if not RTX 5060 TI – but it also happened with 4060 ten and 4070).
What should also be taken into account here is that the new GDDR7 video RAM on the RTX 5060 models is also a major upgrade in terms of memory speed. Plus Nvidia has its VRAM secret sauce (neural texture compression) to help graphics cards with lower capacity with the Blackwell generation, although support for it will be limited, determined in these initial stages of the life of the RTX 5000 GPUs.
All of this adds a clear likelihood that NVIDIA will stay with the RTX 4060 VRAM Loadouts, which rumors have so far insisted – and we can certainly torpedo the fake RTX 5060 16 GB speculation that appeared on Tiktok.
Only having 8 GB of RTX 4060 was controversial enough, back at the launch of this GPU, so you can bet that it will be even more with the RTX 5060 if that’s how this plays out. There are clear and, in my opinion, valid concerns that this is not enough raw capacity for any over 1080p games, despite the tricks that Nvidia has up the sleeve as neural texture compression.
Want some more positive feed from the rumor of RTX 5060? It seems that we at the Power Connector front look at a much easier upgrade with these graphics cards than we previously thought.
We should know the truth behind these GPUs soon enough, considering that a launch in March 2025 seems to be a strong option that goes by the weight of speculation now behind this date.
