Opposition leader for the National Assembly Omar Ayub has announced that his party will present concerns about the parliamentary elections in 2024 and the 26th constitutional amendment before the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation.

“We will present the entire choice of election before the IMF delegation,” Ayub said. “We will also highlight the questions caused by the 26th amendment.”

His comments come when a six-member IMF delegation arrived at the Supreme Court for a meeting with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.

On Sunday, Finance Minstry confirmed that an IMF mission will visit Pakistan to conduct a diagnostic assessment of management and corruption under the country’s program for expanded fund facility in 2024.

The ministry added that the report would recommend actions to tackle corruption vulnerability and strengthen integrity and governance and note that the conclusions would help shape structural reforms.

“The focus of the mission will be to examine the severity of corruption vulnerability across six core state functions. These include fiscal governance, central banking and operation, monitoring of the financial sector, market regulation, the rule of law and the AML-CFT, ”the Ministry said in the declaration.

Pakistan, currently strengthened by a $ 7 billion plant from the IMF, which was awarded in September, is navigating an economic recovery. The IMF is set to review Pakistan’s progress by March, with government and Central Bank expressing confidence to meet its goals.
