What day is it to be an obsessive audiophile. I’ve ever gone to bed and went out and wish you had an analogue clear portable amplifier for some of the best wired headphones your sweating sound dreams have come true. That’s because Ibasso Audio has revealed a portable USB-C DAC (Digital to Analog Convert) with double AMP modes, including a pipe amplifier setting and a picking OLED screen to really stand out among the best portable DACs.
The Chinese audio specialist recently released Ibasso Nunchaku Portable DAC (via notebookcheck). Now stiffen yourself to the audiophile-aging part. The compact little USB DAC has two selectable amps you can switch between and a few Cirrus logic CS43198 DAC chips.
From early glimpses of this little digital amplifier scream that quality. Not only is its premium-looking body made of aluminum, it also rocks the aforementioned OLED screen, with the 0.96-inch screen designed to protect one of Nunchaku USB’s duo of temperate glass sides.
Originally available in red or silver, this attractive portable amplifier has an extensive function kit. It supports both High-Res PCM and DSD51 Music Stream, and if you really want to move on with Sonic Weeds, the promised signal-to-noise ratio is 130dB. Adjustable filters also allow you to finish the audio profiles on whatever sound unit you pair with Ibasso Nunchaku.
Switching to its analog AMP measures the signal-to-noise ratio of about 107DB, which should create enjoyable sound with the permission of Nunchaku’s (wait for it …) Double Raytheon Jan6118 tubes tested and paired specifically for each device. Ibasso makes it clear that there is a probability of a ‘microphone’ effect from tapping or movement on the case that transfers through pipe amplifiers (there is a reason why they are not often used on portable devices!) But these will be reduced As much as possible by its poron-polyurethane-chok-mounted pipes.
You have 4.4 mm balanced output or 3.5 mm headphone connections to make the most of everything here, so it should be a great bridge between laptops or phones and elite headphones.
Given that it has an OLED screen and has clearly been constructed with premium materials, it is not surprising that this palm-friendly amplifier is currently priced at $ 299 (about £ 240 / AU $ 475), which seems positively reasonably considering the complexity and the sound chops.
