PHC allows Azam Swati’s name to be removed from ECL

Peshawar High Court has given Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati permission to travel abroad and order his name to be removed from Exit Control List (ECL).

Under the written order issued, the Court ordered the Court of Authorities to remove the SWATI’s name from all travel limitation lists, including the temporary National Identification List (PNIL) and Passport Control List (PCL).

Swati had challenged the travel ban on him and argued that the restrictions were unjustified.

Last month, the Division Bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday awarded bail on Thursday to the former federal minister and head of PTI Azam Khan Swati in October 4, registered at Taxila police station.

The bench consists of Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Sadiq Mehmood Khurram ordered the PTI leader to submit a bail bond on the RS50,000. SWATI has been in custody for the past four months and is currently jailed in Attock Prison.

During the hearing, lawyer Dr. Babar Awan, that Swati’s arrest was unjustified and that protest is a constitutional right for any citizen who cannot be denied.

He claimed police had smoothed false accusations against his client. The court accepted the bail system and opened the way for his release. There are two remaining cases where bail is also likely.

This bail decision has also paved the way for the release of other arrested workers involved in the protests on October 4 and 5, including those from Taxila, Hassan Abdal and Attock cases.

In October 2024, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad awarded bail to Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati in a case filed under terrorist provisions.

The case registered by Sangjani Police Station accused Swati of terror -related offenses following protests and vandalism.

SWATI had been detained during terrorism clauses following accusations of encouraging protests leading to material damage. SWATI’s legal team maintained that the charges were politically motivated.

He was later produced for a judicial magistrate that handed him to the FIA ​​on a two-day physical custody.

A four against Swati was registered by FIA Cyber ​​Crime Wing on November 26, 2022, over ‘controversial’ tweets, which he had recently sent against government functions, including the former head of Army Staff (Coas).

The report claimed that the PTI leader had started a “very disgusting campaign for scary tweets” against state institutions, including the army chief “with Malafide intentions and extreme motives”.

FIR was registered on the complaint from the state through the Islamabad Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Center Technical Assistant Aneesur Rehman.
