- Users report on charging problems with Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Plus
- The problem seems to be stepped from using a 5A USB-C cable with a 45W charger
- Samsung claims to work on a solution but in the meantime there are several possible temporary solutions
If you are the lucky owner of a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra or Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus, you may have encountered a problem left behind that you don’t feel so lucky. Users report that these devices charge far slower than the advertised 45W speed, or in some cases do not charge at all.
There are reports on this problem about Reddit and Samsung’s own social forums (as stained by the Android police), but both the culprit and a temporary solution appear to be identified.
Most of the charging questions appear to have come across people using Samsung’s 45W charger in tandem with 5A USB-C cable, which comes included in the Galaxy S25. In a post on X, however, Samsung Italia has suggested that use of the included 3A cable should resolve the problem instead.
A software solution
It is not clear whether this solution works for everyone or not, but hopefully a more permanent solution will arrive soon; In the same post, Samsung Italia said the problem would be solved with a future software update.
Since this post, the first software update has started to roll out to the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, and it mentions charging improvements but does not say if this error has been squeezed in particular.
So if you have come across this problem, remember to download this update – in fact, do it anyway, as it also includes other bug fixes and security fixes.
If it doesn’t work, see if shifts to a 3A cable help. Some posts suggest that you could also try to use a slower charging of bricks or turn off the super-fast charging feature on your Galaxy S25 device and if all else fails, you can always switch to use wireless charging until there is a proper solution.
But if you have a Samsung Galaxy S25, specifically – rather than an S25 Plus or Ultra – don’t have to do anything as the base model seems unaffected – presumably because its charging speed of 25W rather than 45W.
