- Nintendo is ready to disconnect its Gold Points Rewards -scheme
- From March 24, 2025, you can no longer earn them
- Points you earn now can be redeemed for another 12 months
Nintendo has confirmed that it will run its ESHOP GOLD POINTS REWARDS scheme next month.
The message was made on the official My Nintendo site confirming that the earnings of gold points will be discontinued on March 24, 2025. At the time of writing, the site is currently returning an error for that page. But an FAQ (picked up by Go Nintendo) gives more details, reading:
“From 9.30pm PDT on 24-24-2 24/2025.
“Gold points will no longer be earned on physical games released after 3/24/2025. For physical games released on or before 3/24/2025, gold points can still be earned by registering eligible titles within a year from the original release date for the game.
“All earned gold points will continue to be valid and redeemable for 12 months after they have been issued. Note that there are no changes in how you redeem the gold points you have already earned.”
Suspicious happens this about a week and a half ahead of April 2 April’s scheduled Nintendo Switch 2 directly. Nintendo has not currently announced a replacement for the Gold Points Rewards scheme, but there is a chance that the company could implement a new system when its new console arrives later this year.
If not, it’s definitely a shame. Gold points are a pretty good way to save cash on digital eShop purchases. Like PlayStation Rewards, Gold Point is added to your Nintendo account after registering a physical game or purchasing a game digitally at ESHOP. Over time, this players allows players to save a significant amount on the best Nintendo Switch games.
Nintendo has confirmed that Nintendo accounts are transferred to Nintendo Switch 2, so could a larger Nintendo ESHOP AVISION be on the way? Let’s hope it because it definitely needs one.
