- Apple reveals its brand new iPhone 16E
- IPhone SE is no more
- Apple finally designed its own Modemchip, C1
Leave it to Apple to surprise or at least turn tables at the Rumor Factory. Yes, we got a new, more affordable iPhone, but it’s not an iPhone SE 4. Instead, Apple revealed the iPhone 16E and expanded the iPhone 16-Lineup with a $ 599 / £ 599 / AU $ 999 5G, Apple Intelligence-Ready Budget phone.
With the A18 CPU, the same 3-nanometer processor that is in the rest of the iPhone 16 lineup, much of the 6.1-inch iPhone 16E is a step down from the baseline iPhone 16 model.
It has only a single 48MP camera shooting at 24MP as default (and up to 4K 60fps video).
The screen is a Super Retina XDR screen, but instead of the dynamic island, we are treated with the return of the chopped with a 12MP -trueepth camera. The good news is that it enables facial id that can be used to unlock and safely authenticated.
The iPhone 16E includes the action button, but with the extra wrinkle of being able to program it to run visual intelligence. This feature allows you to point the camera against animals, plants, restaurants and even event flyers to get information or take AI-driven actions. It’s a remarkable update because it also means the camera control button on the rest of the iPhone 16 setup is not transferred to iPhone 16E.
As for the rest of the building, it is a tempo quality aluminum with a ceramic shield that covers the screen. IPhone 16E also boasts an IP68 rating like 16, 16 plus, 16 pro and 16 pro max.
IPhone 16E also marks – unless Apple holds around the iPhone SE 3. Gen – the end of the home button. Touch ID can live on on other buttons (Macs, iPads), but the iconic button is, it seems, finally no more. Pour one out to the home button.
However, there is a significant and remarkable technological update buried inside the new handset: Apple’s C1 -CHIP, its first homework cellular modem.
There is not much known about this chip yet, but Apple claims some battery efficiency as a result of it. Apple claims 26 hours of video playback on a single charge. If it carries out in our reporting, it would be a huge deal for this class of smartphone.
While the iPhone 16E is not a true update for the iPhone SE setup, it brings some welcome features to Apple’s most affordable smartphone.
The iPhone 16E has a USB-C port for charging, but also supports wireless charging. It runs an A18 chip that supports Apple Intelligence and all the features currently supported in iOS 18, including Genmojis, writes Help and calls transcription. It even includes satellite communication support and starts with 128 GB of storage, but can be configured up to 512 GB.
Pre -orders for iPhone 16E start Friday, February 21st and the phone will start sending on February 28th. It is available in matte black or matte white.
