- South Africa against Afghanistan in Champions Trophy Friday.
Karachi: South Africa -Captain Temba Bavuma expressed confidence in her team’s preparation and emergency preparedness for their ICC Champions Trophy opener against Afghanistan, planned to take place in Karachi on Friday.
When he spoke at a press conference before the match, Bavuma highlighted the challenges that Afghanistan’s spin-heavy attacked and emphasized the importance of adapting to the conditions in Karachi.
South Africa, who arrived in Pakistan more than a week ago, has had time to acclimatize the conditions and played a warm-up game and a Tri-National Series match in front of the tournament.
Bavuma noted that the surfaces of Karachi have been dough -friendly, with teams that have consistently sent scores around 300 in recent matches. However, he emphasized the need for his bowling unit to remain disciplined and precise to counter the highly scored trend.
“Our challenge as a bowling unit is to be one of the more disciplined and precise bowling units,” Bavuma said.
“From a batting point of view, the scoreboard pressed is a big thing. The guys come in and make sure they go big so we can challenge for the 330-350 types of scores. ”
Afghanistan, who debuts in Champions Trophy, is expected to pose a significant challenge, especially with their spinners thriving in subcontinental conditions. Bavuma recognized Afghanistan’s competitiveness and remembered their recent victory over South Africa in Sharjah last year.
“They are a very competitive team with a lot of experience and international pedigree,” he said. “They don’t lack confidence to get into this game.”
When Bavuma was asked about the pitch conditions for the match, Bavuma revealed that the surface seemed fresher than previous wickets, which potentially offers more help to Seam Bowlers. However, he expects Karachi to remain a batting -friendly place in general.
“From what I hear from the coach, it looks like a fresh wicket, not as dare as the others we’ve seen,” he said. “There may be a little more help for the sailors, but Karachi is generally a good wicket for batters.”
South Africa’s history in ICC tournaments has been a topic of discussion among fans and teachers, where the team often falls short in knockout stages. However, Bavuma rejected any view of lingering luggage from past disappointments.
“There is no real negativity or luggage among the guys,” he said. “We come into this tournament with a lot of positivity and confidence in our ability to go a long way.”
The South African skipper emphasized the importance of treating each game as a knockout considering the truncated format of Champions Trophy. “Our thinking is to make sure we vomit and play our best cricket game,” he said. “Hopefully we play five matches and not three in this tournament. The most important thing is that we have to win the moments that matter. ”
South Africa will look to start their campaign on a strong note against Afghanistan, with Bavuma calling on her team to bring their “A-Games” to the table.
The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. 14 local time on Friday, with both teams eager to make an early statement in the tournament.
