4 Nations Face-off: Americans belt proudly out ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’

One of the biggest history lines that went into 4 Nations Face-off championship games between Team USA and Team Canada had nothing to do with the competition to take place on the ice.

No, attention was completely focused on National Anthems before opening Face-off. When the two teams squared in Canada on Saturday night, Canadians mercilessly bogged the US national anthem.

While there was not much booing for the Canadian hymn on Monday in Boston before Team Canada defeated Team Finland to secure her place in the final, it was a strong Canadian audience as Team US did not play Sweden until later that night.

But that was not the case on Thursday. With Team USA, Team Canada takes on the tournament title, packed US fans TD Garden.

So the question was: Would the Americans of course respond before the championship with a booing of the Canadian national anthem?

The answer was … kind. There were some boos completely in the beginning, but nothing is approaching the level of respectless respect, as Canadians showed Saturday.

When it was time for the US national anthem, the American patriots were of course up to the task. If this doesn’t give you goosebumps I don’t know what will.

As a proud American, hearing tens of thousands of fans belt was the “star -sparkled banner” in Unison, who was awe -inspiring.

As it was the incredible reception, the audience Mike Eruzione, the captain of 1980, gave the American Olympic Hockey Team who won the gold medal after disturbing the Soviet Union at the greatest moment of American hockey history.

God bless America.
