There has been a recent flurry of AI tools that can go online and do things on your behalf. Openais operator is a strong and expensive AI agent. At the same time, the more provisional browser use offers a sparse opportunity for those who want AI to automate their online errands. The latest example of drawing attention is Proxy 1.0, created by the convergence AI. Proxy boasted of being able to multitask online and deal with everything except final approval for you.
I would try it, but you only get five sessions a day for free, so I decided to emulate the test I did with browser use. After linking it to my Google account, I was presented with Proxy interface and started my test run. Unlike browser use, however, I could submit the instructions quickly as I didn’t have to wait for one to finish before I sent the next.
Buy Proxy
As with browser use, I started with a Purchase Council request: “Naviger to Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart and search for ‘MacBook Air M2’. Extract the product name, price and warehouse accessibility from the first five results at each location.
Proxy eventually offered a few of the best options for each outlets and its own recommendations. It took a little longer than browser and certainly slower than to do it manually, but it was great to make it run without having to keep an eye on it.
AI Travel Agency
Then I asked Proxy for help with travel planning with prompt: “Search for a trip-return flight between New York and London leaving December 15, 2025, and returning December 21, 2025. Choose the cheapest option and excerpt details, including Price, Airline and departure time.
This was a bit of a mixed bag. While Proxy found a shockingly cheap flight of about $ 430, it set it in British pounds for some reason. Still, the small airport flight with a stop in Iceland at that price is not bad.
Meteorologist AI
I went back to the always useful test of finding and explaining weather forecast any serious weather warnings and then suggests how to dress to it. “
AI did fine to pull the forecasts and extract details of what to expect. AI went something bland in his suggestions on what to wear, and recommended an umbrella on a rainy day and warm clothes most days to deal with the cold. But it doesn’t have to be exciting to be useful when it’s the weather.
Meteor
On your own, Proxy 1.0 is astonishing. It doesn’t have to dazzle you to convince you of its utility. Ai pretends not to be human and have conversation. It just gets things done. It’s not perfect and I had to experiment with arranging my prompts to get the best answers, but not enough to be too frustrating. I can see that it was very appealing if I was someone’s personal assistant or had to juggle a complex home life. For busy people who don’t want to waste time navigating and through sites, it’s valuable.
Browser use felt more like an open source science project. It is powerful, but it requires a good bit of setup and tinkering, which makes it more high maintenance, even if you get good results if you are willing to make an effort. This DIY flexibility is excellent if your interests and skills trend that way, especially if you want a more conversation interaction, but I prefer the streamlined proxy.
Openais operator is supposed to be the ultimate hands -free, natural language -driven web assistant. But for $ 200 a month, it’s not for someone who randomly plays with AI tools. There are reports that it also often asks for help when it hits an obstacle, what kind of defeating the purpose of getting an AI to do the work for you.
Proxy 1.0 sits somewhere in the middle of both of these alternatives. Compared to how you can almost see the browser’s use of scaffolding, you get a complete product without breaking the bank as an operator. I also like how it is more proactive to overcome obstacles instead of immediately asking for help. The pace in which Proxy finishes tasks can be a little annoying. I found that I could complete the requests quite a little faster than proxy, but the point is with AI, I didn’t need.
Everything that lets me read my least favorite online tasks is worth staying around, especially as it probably gets better. If the convergence AI continues to improve proxy, I can even start relying on the AI agent with my most holy digital task: to remember to cancel free attempts before I am charged.
