President Donald Trump has had several cases, including before Thursday’s match, saying that Canada could become the country’s “51st state.” Trump has also referred to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “Governor Trudeau.”

Trump called the US team on Thursday morning and Team US General Manager Bill Guerin said Trump was referring to a “51st state” reference to them.

The National Anthem stroke began earlier this month when the Ottawa Senators fans booed “Star-Spangled Banner” on February 1st, when Trump’s tariffs on goods from Canada to the United States were to be implemented (they have since been delayed). It also happened during a Toronto Raptors game the next day, and when Team USA played his first 4 Nations game in Montreal, you would have thought the game was playing in Finland, which Americans played against that night.
