- Optoma reveals a new portable projector with RGB triple laser technology
- Photon Go is an ultra short throwing model with HD resolution
- Available from April, retail to £ 899 / € 999
Optoma’s latest Ultra Short Throw Projector, Photon Go, squeezes a whole lot of technology for a very small (and laptop) package. Could it be one of the best portable projectors this year?
Photon Go is a new model that seems to combine the image quality of the RGB-drumming laser projectors with the convenience of an on-the-go, laptop.
Thanks to its triple-laser system, it is capable of reproducing “pure red, green and blue light sources” instead of filtering a light source, ensuring strong, accurate colors and a dynamic contrast ratio of 2,500,000: 1.
As a UST (Ultra Short Throw) model, it can sit pretty flush with the wall or screen on which it projects, with the ability to project a 100 -inch image when it is under 25 cm away from the wall.
There is no 4K capacity here-in contrast to Optoma’s second new projector, 5,000-lumen UHZ68LV. The photon is marrying its RGB color output with HD / 1080P resolution, which helps keep its price under the four-figure brand, although the performance of color and the pure convenience of its size should compensate for it.
Optoma tells us that Photon Go is capable of 650 lumens of brightness, which is pretty good for a portable projector if well under the thousands of lumens expected from several static home theater models.
Hot to go
However, a built-in battery and a compact design make this a projector that you can also slip into a backpack or suitcase with relative ease Anker Capsule II Mini Projector or Samsung Freestyle 2. Gen. It is convenient, whether you move the projector between rooms, homes or campsites on regular occasions, and allow for a great selection of flexibility in where and how to entertain yourself and your friends.
Meanwhile, Google TV operating system provides access to 10,000+ apps and streaming services, making sure your projector can interact with smart home controls and funnel an almost non-limited selection of content for your living room wall.
As for gates, you get an HDMI 2.0 input, a USB-C power connection and outputs for USB-A and S/PDIF. You can get your hands on a model from April 2025, retail for £ 899 / € 999 (approximately $ 1,140 / AU $ 1,800). There is no word about an American launch yet, but hopefully it will follow because this looks good for a minimalist entertainment room.
