- OnePlus released its new Wear OS Watch 3 in February
- It’s big and heavy and there’s no LTE — Opportunity in most markets
- The company has confirmed that it seems to add a new size and LTE model this year
Just days after the OnePlus Watch 3 was released, OnePlus has confirmed that it is already working on new models that will tackle the three most important shortcomings of its new battery lifeline animal.
As we noticed in our OnePlus Watch 3 review, the new laptop boasts the best wear of us -battery life for any of the best Android smartwatches on the market. It comes with OnePlus’ classic design language, new health features and all Google-Three-third-part apps you would expect from a wear OS-SmartWatch. However, it is also quite large and heavy and there is no LTE option for cellular connection outside China.
Now the company has confirmed that all three of these problems are on its radar and says it has plans to introduce a new size and a cellular version later in the year.
OnePlus Watch 3’s 2025 upgrade
In comments made for Waring, OnePlus Health Lab’s head of F&U confirmed that we could see the new models already this year.
“It is true that the watch remains heavy for a small wrist and that this typically affects women, but we will arrange it this year,” said Dr. Leo Zhang to the business. “We value our customer’s voice and we are working on it.”
“LTE is also something we are asked about by many users,” he added, confirming that there is no technical barrier to adding the feature. “At China’s home market we have an LTE version,” he said. “In an overseas market, we have to cooperate with the carriers – and that is a big obstacle. We have to work with carriers so that users can put an eSim and have a data plan.”
LTE connection allows a smartwatch to connect to a carrier network and use data just like a smartphone. It enables features such as navigation, calls and texts and media streaming, even without a smartphone present, a practical feature for runners and other people who want to leave their phone at home exercise with an independent smartwatch.
Zhang said that “as long as we work smoothly with the carriers,” the feature must also be on the Upgrade List for OnePlus Watch 3.
