Auburn Tiger’s main coach Hugh Freeze was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, the university revealed Friday.
Due to early detection, doctors believe that Freeze’s cancer “is very therapeutic and hardenable,” according to a statement from school. The 55-year-old is expected to maintain his football trainer plan as he performs his job assignments during his treatment.
The tigers are scheduled to start spring practice at the end of March.

“Recently, Coach Freeze was diagnosed with an early form of prostate cancer,” the statement states. “Fortunately, it was discovered early and his doctors have advised that it is very treatment and hardenable. He will continue his normal coaching tasks and responsibilities, and with upcoming proper treatment is expected to make a full improvement.”

Auburn -officials also shared Freeze’s hope that his health struggle will serve as a reminder to undergo health screenings annually.
“Coach Freeze is incredibly appreciated by our medical professionals and has asked that we use his experience as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing and planning annual health screening,” the statement states.

Auburn ended with a 6-6 season record under Freeze in 2023 before losing in the Music City Bowl. The tigers did not show much improvement in the freezes second season at the helm and ended with a 5-7 record.

Auburn strengthened its list via the transfer portal this season, which could help the team become challengers in the southeastern conference in 2025.
Freeze previously managed to coach while dealing with health problems in the past.
In 2019, he suffered a herniated disk in the back and a staph infection. Freeze continued to train Liberty Flames football team from a hospital bed that was temporarily moved to the stadium coach box to the team’s 31 August 2019, Game.
