‘PM that deliberately delay CEC Agreement’

Islamabad:

PTI has required immediate initiation of the process of appointing a new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). It claims that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif deliberately delays the process despite the fact that the expression of established CEC, Sikandar Sultan Raja, has expired two months ago.

PTI’s central information secretary Shafi Jan on Thursday made a statement that required the government to start the process without further delay.

He said the Election Commission in Pakistan (ECP) is a constitutional institution and the appointment of its new boss is crucial. However, the Prime Minister and his allies are bent by violating and respecting the constitution.

He said the process of appointing CEC must be completed in accordance with Article 213.

Jan said the prime minister has not yet contacted the opposition leader about this case despite the fact that the national assembly leader of the opposition Omar Ayub has already written a letter to the National Assembly’s speeches Ayaz Sadiq to fill the key position.

“There has not yet been an answer to the demand for the formation of a parliamentary committee. The delay in this process clearly exposes the intentions of the Prime Minister and his allies.”

He said the government wants to preserve “a partial and puppet” CEC.

“The government is trying to meet its malicious goals through the current CEC. We demand that the illegitimate prime minister start the process of appointing a new CEC. Otherwise, we will take the case to court,” the statement added.
