Winter Sports: Ski Jumpers and employees punished for alleged cheating scand

After the Nordic World Ski Jumping Championships were shaken by an alleged cheat scandal involving manipulated suits this past weekend, two competitors have been disqualified and two employees suspected of being involved have been suspended.

The Norwegian skier suspended a ski jump trainer and an equipment manager over their alleged role in a cheating scandal that shook the World Cup this weekend. It came only one day after two Norwegian competitors were disqualified after the organizers said their suits broke the rules.

The two competitors who are disqualified were Marius Lindvik and Johann’s other forks. Lindvik ended up in second place in the event before incompatibility.

The coach suspended is Magnus Brevik, and the suspended equipment manager is Adrian Livelen. The union said that Brevik and the Livel were suspected of changing skiing suits by sewing in an extra nail in an attempt to create more lifting in the air.

The International Ski and Snowboard Association said earlier Sunday that its ethics and compliance office had opened a study “to assess the circumstances” of the disqualifications. It said skiers were disqualified from Saturday’s large hill event “after an inspection of their jump suits that did not comply with the equipment rules.”

“Fis Independent Ethics and Compliance Office is now investigating a suspicion of illegal manipulation of the equipment from the Norwegian team,” Federation said.

Norwegian Team Manager Jan-Erik Aalbu said at a news conference that JumpSuits was deliberately changed.

Norway is one of the traditional forces in ski hopping, and the cheat trial of its world championships has caused a massive scream in a country proud of its winter sports production.

The union admitted on Sunday that the suits had deliberately changed after a video emerged online about the changes made.

Brevik to Monday told Norwegian Media that several team members had been involved in the decision to change the suits, but that “I should have stopped it.”

He claimed it was the first time they had sewn in an extra stitch, but made a sailing analogy to explain why a stiffer suit would help the jumpers fly further in the air.

“A tighter sail is better than a loose sail,” Brevik said.

The union said that Brevik and the Livel would be suspended indefinitely while inquiries continue. The International Ski and Snowboard Association said on Sunday that it had opened its own investigation.
