The United States on Tuesday agreed to resume military assistance and intelligence sharing with Ukraine after negotiations, with Kyiv saying it would accept a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in its conflict with Russia, the countries of a joint statement said.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States would now take the offer to Russia and that the ball is in Moscow’s court.

“Our hope is that the Russians will answer ‘yes’ as soon as possible, so we can get to the second phase of this, which is real negotiations,” Rubio told journalists, referring to US President Donald Trump after more than eight hours of conversations in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Kremlin launched an invasion of Ukraine full scale three years ago, and Russia, which has made progress, is now holding about a fifth of Ukraine’s territory, including Crimea, as it annexed in 2014.

Rubio said Washington would have a full deal with both Russia and Ukraine “as soon as possible.”

“Every day that goes, this war continues, people die, people bomb, people get hurt on both sides of this conflict,” he said.

When the United States and Ukraine waited for Russia’s response to the deal, Moscow launched an air strike on the Kievnight at Kiev in what could be a response to yesterday’s drone attack from Ukraine.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed on Wednesday that the attack said that air defense forces were dealing with rejecting the strikes.

How Moscow would react further was far from determined.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is open to discussing a peace agreement, but he and his diplomats have repeatedly declared that they are against a ceasefire and would seek an appointment that protects Russia’s “long -term security.” Putin has excluded territorial concessions and said that Ukraine should withdraw fully from four Ukrainian regions claimed and partly controlled by Russia.

On Tuesday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said only that it was not excluded with US representatives.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was in Saudi Arabia but did not participate in the negotiations, said the ceasefire was a “positive proposal” covering the front line of the conflict and not just fought with air and sea.

Will Russia agree?

The Ukrainian leader said the ceasefire would take effect as soon as Russia agreed.

“When the agreements come into force, during these 30 days of ‘silence’, we will have time to prepare with our partners on par with work documents all aspects of reliable peace and long -term security,” Zelensky said.

Rubio said the plan would be delivered to the Russians through several channels. Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz was to meet his Russian colleague in the coming days, and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff is planning to visit Moscow this week to meet Putin.

On Tuesday, Trump said he was hoping for a quick ceasefire and thought he would talk to Putin this week. “I hope it will be in the next few days,” he told journalists at an event in the White House to promote his close adviser Elon Musk’s Tesla Car Company.

The US Ukraine Agreement was a sharp reversal from a cruel meeting in the February 28 between the new Republican President, who has long been a Ukraine Aid Skeptic and Zelensky.

In Tuesday’s joint statement, the two countries said they agreed to end as soon as possible an extensive agreement to develop Ukraine’s critical mineral resources that had been in the works and were thrown in the limbo by this meeting.

After this meeting, the United States interrupted intelligence and weapons shipments to Ukraine and emphasized Trump’s willingness to push an American ally as he turns into a more conciliation approach to Moscow.

Trump said Tuesday he would invite Zelensky back to the White House.

Ukrainian officials said late Tuesday that both US military assistance and intelligence division had resumed.

European partners

A top assistant to Zelensky said that opportunities for security guarantees for Ukraine were discussed with US officials. Security guarantees have been one of Kyiv’s most important goals, and some European countries have expressed the will to explore the consignment of peacekeepers.

In the joint statement, Ukraine reiterated that European partners should be involved in the peace process. NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte will be in the White House on Thursday.

“It seems that Americans and Ukrainians have taken an important step towards peace. And Europe is ready to help reach a fair and lasting peace,” said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at X.

Waltz said the original resumption of military assistance to Ukraine would involve equipment from US stocks approved by former US President Joe Biden and stopped by Trump.

As diplomacy plays out, Ukraine’s battlefield positions have been under heavy pressure, especially in Russia’s Kursk region, where Moscow’s forces have launched a push to flush Kyiv’s troops, which had tried to keep a stain of land like a negotiating chip.

Ukraine overnight launched its biggest drone attack on Moscow and the surrounding region yet, which shows that Kyiv can also land great strokes after a steady stream of Russian missile and drone attacks, one of which killed 14 people on Saturday.

The attack, where 337 drones were shut down over Russia, killed at least three employees in a meat warehouse and caused a short shutdown in Moscow’s four airports.
