College Football saw its first extended playoff system in 2024, when Ohio State Buckeyes won it all over Notre Dame in the end.
However, the system was criticized by many, which led to discussion of how to solve it. At the same time, it was always a map to extend the playoffs even more on the table.
Speaking of Buckeyes, Urban Meyer, EX-College and NFL head coach, appeared on Fox Sports’ “The Herd With Colin Cowherd,” where he said he would be a fan of the 14-team college football game format.

“I actually did a little research on this,” Meyer said via terrible advertising. “It’s a 4-4-2-2-1-1 format. I know it’s out there a little, but I dived a little into it, and of all those I’ve heard make the most sense. It’s a 14-team endgame. Now there will be a big warning in what the big 12 and ACC need to be pissed.”
Why does Meyer think that two of the Power Five conferences will not be satisfied with this format? Well, this proposal for a 14-team playoffs would have the SEC and the Big Ten, each getting four automatic bids. A big team and the group at the highest rate on five teams would also come in.

“Here’s the best thing – it takes it out of selection and more to access,” Meyer explained. “So the selection committee will be wrong. It’s an imperfect system. That’s the way since BCS. I like the idea you play in it
One of the most important concerns about the current CFP system was teams at conferences such as SEC and the Big Ten, which had harsher opponents than others, especially at the start of the season.

With automatic bids, there is less risk of losing early in the season when thinking about the playoff chances.
“If you go to the conferences, handle access, get Big Ten Fire (team). You’re right, I’ll play Texas because I want to challenge my team. It’s great for recruiting. It’s great for our fans. It’s great for the football game and it won’t punish me. If I still win the Big Ten, I’m # 1 frog.”

“To do our show yesterday, even called SEC fans in … and said they don’t like it,” Finebaum said. “There’s something inherent wrong by stacking the tire before the season.”
