DK Metcalf is not worried about Steelers’ QB situation

Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson are the only two quarterbacks under contract with Pittsburgh Steelers.

While Justin Fields and Russell Wilson handled Steelers’ start -quarterback tasks at different times last season, it remains unclear who will be below the center when the regular season starts.

Fields accepted a two-year contract with Jets earlier this week, while Wilson reportedly visited other teams. While there are more questions than answers in Pittsburgh’s quarterback room, the big franchise strengthened its wide receiver corps by adding DK Metcalf.

Steelers sent drafts of Pittsburgh in exchange for Metcalf. The Star Wide recipient subsequently accepted an extension of five years, $ 150 million, ESPN reported.

During its initial news conference, Metcalf took a moment to praise Steelers for delivering a warm reception.

“Coach [Mike] Tomlin, Mr. Omar [Khan] and Mr. [Art] Rooney jumped everyone with me on Sunday, and it just felt homely, felt inviting that they would bring me to this historic organization, “Metcalf said.” Everything snowballed from there brought me hit in front of you today. “

Metcalf, who ended last season with 992 receiving yards, also acknowledged that he did not control the team’s staff. But he said that discussions with Tomlin and Steelers’ other decision makers made him feel confident in the quarterback they want to sign.

“They made me feel like they had the right decision with who should throw me football,” Metcalf said, according to ESPN. “I don’t make the decision in the quarterback room. So I just want to try to do the best of my ability to help the one they have out there throwing football. They make the right decisions to bring quarterback in here. So I just want to roll it.”

Metcalf, George Pickens and Calvin Austin III are Steelers’ top broad recipients on their way into the 2025 season. Pickens wears the same number, so Metcalf decided to switch to No. 4.

“I mean, he has been here, he has made a staple in No. 14,” Metcalf said, referring to pickens. “I’m not trying to take away from someone’s inheritance, just trying to help build mine.”

Steelers completed the regular season 2024 with a 10-7 record and was removed from the post season in the Wild-Card Round.
