Islamabad:
The National Assembly’s speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has Chided the opposition parties – mainly PTI – for their alleged double standards and says they use perks and privileges of the same parliament as they call “false”.
“I ask if it is justified to at the same time withdraw wages and possess key offices in the lower and upper houses of Parliament while calling it false,” Sadiq said on Friday during his media interaction at the launch ceremony for the wooden plantation, which operates Mughal Garden in Parliament’s house.
The speaker said the opposition legislators enter the assembly to protest and neglect the questions of public importance.
Sadiq also revealed that the opposition has not yet proposed any names of the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). “Despite the official correspondence from the National Assembly Secretariat on February 19, 2025, the opposition has so far not nominated names for CEC,” he said.
While discussing the current events in the assembly, the speaker accused the opposition leader – Omar Ayub – of misleading people and said he is talking on the floor for a long time and then telling the media that he did not get a chance to speak.
Speaking Sadiq revealed that the opposition leader gave a speech that lasted an hour and 21 minutes during the current session, but after the speech he went out and told the media he was not given a chance to speak. “Is this not a contradiction,” he asked.
