National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Boston-based expansion team announced Friday that it will change its name. The change comes after a wave of transgender setbacks to a marketing campaign it gave up back in October.
The team was set to be named Bos Nation FC, as it announced in a branding event this fall with a marketing campaign containing the slogan “Too many balls.” The slogan asked intense setback from the transgender community, including a NWSL player.
A transgender player who goes by the unique name Quinn, who plays for Seattle Reign, spoke against the team’s branding message in a post on Instagram.
“Feels transphobic. Yikes,” Quinn wrote.

“Thank you to everyone who has held us responsible by encouraging us to do better. We hear you and we will together,” says another statement.
