Three policemen martyrated two wounded in separate gun attacks in KP

PESHAWAR: Four people, including three police officers, were martyrated and three others wounded in separate gun attacks on police stations during the small hours on Sunday, control points and a SUI gas installation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a wave of terrorism shrouds the country.

Police said a policeman was martyrated when armed men attacked the Pajjagi police speech in Peshawar. Police responded with gunfire and forced attackers to flee and launched a search operation in the area to track the assailants.

In Karak, militants in Karak launched coordinated attacks on Takht-E-Nasrati and Thana Khurram Police Station using heavy weapons. District Police Officer (DPO) Shehbaz Ilahi said police successfully reject both attacks.

However, an officer was martyrated in the first attack. The retaliation of the police forced the striker to flee, he added.

In Bannu, terrorists tried to attack the Pinah Tangi police checkpoint. Security staff responded with gunfire and forced attackers to flee. No injuries were reported.

In addition, some militant Nasran attacked the police’s checkpoint in the yellow imam police station’s jurisdiction in tank and injured two policemen. Separately, a retired police officer came during a deadly gun attack in South Waziristan’s Dabkot area.

In a separate event in Karak, militants attacked a SUI gas installation in Karak. A security guard was martyrated and another was injured. The attackers managed to escape after the assault.

DPO Ilahi later confirmed that firing at both stations and the gas office had ceased.

Earlier, police had reported attacks on six police stations and checkposts in Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Tank in the early hours on Saturday. Officials said no accident was reported when police were aware and they rejected all attacks with support from the locals.

The attacks come in the continuation of the increased militant activities in the country, especially in KP and Balochistan, the provinces that encounter the Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

The two nations share a porous border spanning 2,500 kilometers with several crossings that are important as a key element in regional trade and the relationship between the population on both sides of the fence.

The country witnessed a sharp increase in terrorist attacks in January 2025, which increased by 42% compared to the previous month, according to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank.

Islamabad has again called on Kabul again not to allow its territory to be used by terrorist groups to carry out attacks against Pakistan-denied hard by the Afghan Taliban-led administration.
