Dodgers’ Mookie Betts will miss the Tokyo series vs. cubs with lingering disease

Mookie Betts will miss Los Angeles Dodgers’ Tokyo series against Chicago Cubs due to a disease. Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts announced the decision on Sunday night.

Roberts said Betts starts to feel better but has lost almost 15 pounds and still tries to be rehydrated and gain strength. Roberts added that the eight-time all-star may fly back to the United States before the team in an attempt to rest and prepare for the domestic opening on March 27.

Cubs and Dodgers open the big league season Tuesday at Tokyo Dome. Another game is on Wednesday.

“He won’t play in these two games,” Roberts said. “When you are dehydrated, that’s what opens a person up to softening damage. We are very aware of it.”

Roberts said Miguel Rojas will start at Shortstop at Betts’ place for the two games at Tokyo Dome.

Betts went through a light workout on Sunday, but quickly got tired. He began to suffer from flu -like symptoms in Arizona the day before the team traveled to Japan. He still made the long flight, but has not recovered as quickly as hoped.

Betts is making full -time transition to shortstop this season after playing most of his career in the right field and other base. 2018 Al MVP Hit .289 with 19 Homers and 75 RBIS last season, which helped Dodgers win the World Series.
